Privacy Policy

LDR Buddy ("the app", "we", "our") is built around one simple rule: what you record is yours. This page explains exactly what data the app handles, where it's stored, and what — if anything — ever leaves your phone.

The short version

• Your notes, memories, reminders, and partner details are stored only on your device.
• Voice recordings are transcribed on your device using Apple's built-in speech recognition and are never uploaded.
• We don't have user accounts, so we don't have your name, email, or phone number.
• We don't run ads, analytics, or tracking SDKs of any kind.
• The only optional exception: the premium AI features (memory extraction, Thoughtful Act suggestions, and trip itinerary generation) send your text to our server, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude API to process — and immediately discards it. See "AI-Powered Features" below.

Information you provide

When you use LDR Buddy, you may enter:

• Your partner's name and, optionally, phone number (used only to personalize the app)
• Voice notes or typed notes about your conversations
• Memories, reminders, and gift ideas — either entered manually or extracted from your notes
• Important dates (birthdays, anniversaries) — read from the text you enter and turned into reminders entirely on your device; this text is never sent to our server

All of this is stored locally on your device using standard iOS storage (on-device database and secure keychain storage). It is included in your device's encrypted backups if you have those enabled, but it is never transmitted to us or stored on any server we operate.

Voice recording & speech recognition

When you record a voice note, audio is processed using Apple's on-device speech recognition (SFSpeechRecognizer) to produce a text transcript. This happens entirely on your phone. The audio itself is not saved after the transcript is created, and neither the audio nor the transcript is sent anywhere unless you use a premium AI feature described below.

AI-powered features (Premium)

Premium unlocks three features — extracting memories/reminders/gift ideas from a note, generating Thoughtful Act suggestions, and generating trip itineraries. All three work the same way:

• The relevant text (your note, a summary of your saved memories, or your destination and dates) is sent over an encrypted connection to a server we operate.
• Our server forwards that text to Anthropic's Claude API for processing, and returns the structured result (e.g. "reminder: call mom Friday") to your phone.
• Our server does not store the text — it is processed and discarded. The only thing our server keeps is an anonymous per-device counter used to apply fair-use rate limits, which contains no note content.
• Anthropic processes this text under their own API terms and does not use API inputs to train their models. See Anthropic's privacy policy for details.

If you're on the free tier, none of this applies — your notes never leave your device.

Notifications

LDR Buddy uses local notifications (e.g. reminders you've set) scheduled directly on your device through Apple's notification system. We don't use a push notification service and don't see when or whether you receive these.

Contacts

If you grant contacts access, LDR Buddy may read your contacts on-device to help suggest your partner's phone number. This information stays on your device and is never uploaded.

Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your information with third parties for advertising or any other purpose. The only data transmission that occurs is the optional, premium AI processing described above.

Deleting your data

You can delete a partner profile and all associated memories and reminders at any time from Settings. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data from your device.

Children's privacy

LDR Buddy is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
